I met Mr. Kaspar Hess in the early 2000s when he became active in the “Tour Operator’s Initiative for Sustainable Tourism Development”, or “TOI” for short, in his capacity as delegate of the management for sustainability of the Swiss tour operator Hotelplan. The TOI was a worldwide organization of tour operators, founded in 2000 under the auspices of the UN organizations UNEP, UNWTO and UNESCO. One can say that the often difficult development of the organization was significantly shaped by the professional competence, the commitment and the control on the part of Mr. Hess up to today’s solid institution. The “Code” operates today in close cooperation with the child protection organization “ECPAT International”. All in all, one can say that the tour operator Hotelplan joined both organizations on the initiative of Mr. Hess and as a result, and additional company commitment, temporarily became the market leader in terms of sustainability on the Swiss tourism market. I can describe Mr. Hess with conviction as a very assertive, always well-prepared professional, always enthusiastic and charismatic person. At the same time, he has a high degree of empathy, which is particularly important when dealing with people from other cultures and sensitive issues such as child protection.
